The Road to Revelation

Palm Sunday - Five Days Before Jesus Died

Read: Luke 24:13-34

• What did you discover in today’s reading?

I was the third child in a family with six children. It is easy for a shy, middle child to get lost in the daily scrum of such a big family.

But I found a way to spend some time alone with my father. He was part of a carpool to get to work. Every morning, he walked one-third of a mile from our house to the highway where he would catch his ride. When I was in first grade, I was old enough to walk there with him and then walk back home by myself.

All I had to do was to get up when Dad did; share in his breakfast; and then take the walk to the highway. Just me and my father.

I would talk to him about my concerns, my questions, my schoolwork. He helped me with my multiplication tables and taught me the way of faith in God.

I look back now and treasure every moment of that time with my father.

In the Bible passage, the two discouraged believers took a walk with the Lord. They expressed their concerns, their heartache and discouragement, their faint hope. The Lord graciously revealed the truth of the Scripture to them and then broke bread with them.

Pray: Dear Father, draw me close to you. Open my eyes to the truth of Scripture today. Let me share in the bread of life from your table. May my heart burn with passion for your Word! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Do: Get up early tomorrow — walk the road with the LORD. Tell Him what is on your mind and listen as He reveals the truth in answer to your prayer.
