Peace Be With You

Holy Saturday - The Day After Jesus Died

Read: John 20:19-22

• What did you discover in today’s reading?

When I was in third grade, Mrs. Early would choose a pair of students to take the hike up the hill to get to the junior high campus. Proving ourselves responsible, my friend Keith and I were often the ones selected. The object of this mission was to pick up a film from the office – all we had to do was tell the secretary we were sent by Mrs. Early.

The scary part of this mission was walking past the science lab. In the window there was a graphic cutaway model of the human body – showing the heart, lungs, intestines, and other organs. Keith and I found it terrifying, although we also felt compelled to look at it. Even though that sight filled me with fear, I would think, “Well, Keith is here with me too!”

The disciples were isolated and terrified themselves that Sunday evening of the Resurrection. All the reports they had heard left them bewildered and confused.  Suddenly,  Jesus was with them!

Peace be with you!

Peace came upon them because Jesus was with them. They were not alone after all.

Jesus promised to always be with us – no matter what situation we are walking through – He is right there alongside us.

Pray: Dear Father, thank you for the peace that comes only through your Son. Let my mind take joy in the peace that only you can give.  Amen.

Do: Who is in your path today that needs peace? Pray for an opportunity to speak the peace that comes from Jesus into someone’s life.
